North Barrington was incorporated in 1959, although the first houses in North Barrington were built between 1857 and 1875. North Barrington offers a low-density residential environment highlighted by lakes, ravines, woodlands and rolling topography.

Recreation -- The village operates four park areas which include a soccer field, baseball diamond, and play equipment. Two country clubs are in the community as well.

Schools -- North Barrington is served by two unit school districts: Barrington District #220, with an enrollment of 7,695, and Lake Zurich District #95, with an enrollment of 5,769 students. There are two parochial schools in nearby Lake Zurich and one in Barrington.
