Lake Bluff lies south of Great Lakes Naval Training Center and north of Lake Forest. The village was incorporated in 1895.

Recreation -- Lake Michigan provides Lake Bluff with a major recreational asset. The Lake Bluff Park District operates an 18-hole public golf course along with tennis courts and a public swimming pool. Other facilities include a community recreation center and six park sites consisting of 245 acres.

Schools -- Lake Bluff students attend elementary school in District #65 with enrollment of 1,023 students. High school students attend Lake Forest High School with an enrollment of 1,400. There are also two private elementary schools and two college preparatory high schools in the area. The Arden Shore Child and Family Services Center provides for the needs of those developmentally and physically challenged.

Housing -- There are numerous houses ranging from the older "picturebook" Victorians, to newer expansive homes along the lakefront and Green Bay Road. The 2000 median house value was $439,600 and the median rent cost was $869. (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000)

Government Services -- Lake Bluff receives fire protection from the 45 volunteer firefighters of the Lake Bluff Fire Department. Police protection is provided by the 12 sworn officers of the Lake Bluff Police Department.

Transportation -- For the residents working in Chicago or Milwaukee, highway transportation on U.S. Rte. 41 as well as Interstate 94 provides easy access. Commuter rail service is available on Metra's Chicago & North Western/North Line, with a station situated in downtown.
