Gurnee, incorporated in 1928, enjoys a strong tax base and is home to Six Flags Great America theme park, Gurnee Mills regional mall, Domino Amjet, and numerous other businesses and corporations located within Gurnee's six business and industrial parks.
Recreation -- The Gurnee Park District offers a wide range of programs for all ages and continues to increase its village park network to keep pace with Gurnee's growing population. The Gurnee Park District operates 23 park sites with a total of 250 acres of open space. One park, Gowe Beach, offers swimming, a water slide, and a canoe launch into the nearby Des Plaines River. Six Flags Great America, which draws over 2 million visitors annually, continues to be a popular attraction. The village also owns the Bittersweet Golf Club. Bittersweet is an 18-hole championship public golf facility situated on 240 acres of beautiful property.

Transportation -- Interstate 94 is in the village's corporate limits. Also, Rtes. 21, 41, 45, and 120 provide access within Lake County as well as throughout the metropolitan region. As an alternative to driving, Metra rail service is available 10-15 minutes away in Waukegan.
