Deerfield incorporated as a village in 1903. The village houses the corporate headquarters for Walgreen's and Baxter Healthcare as well as being the location for other major employers in Lake County.
Recreation -- Numerous recreational and community facilities are available for individual and family recreation. Included are 20 park sites that total 331 acres, a community center, field house, two public swimming pools, and a bowling alley, 131 acre golf course, nature walk parks, baseball diamond, eight tennis courts, soccer fields, football fields and basketball courts.
Schools -- Deerfield has an excellent school system consisting of Township High School District #113 (Deerfield High School) with total enrollment of 1,373. The majority of elementary students attend Deerfield District #109 with 2,505 students. District #109 Junior High School enrollment is 998.
Housing -- Deerfield offers a range of housing types and styles with new and older single-family houses, older rental apartments, and newer condominiums and townhouses. The 2000 median house value was $342,900 and the median rent cost $1,018. (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000)
Government Services -- Fire protection is provided by the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District's 33 full-time firefighters, housed in one station. Police protection is provided by the Deerfield Police Department's 40 sworn officers.
Transportation -- Residents can travel to Chicago via U.S. Rte. 41, Interstate 94 or by use of Metra's Milwaukee District/North Line commuter trains that reach the Loop within 45 minutes. Also, bus service is available to surrounding communities.
